Troops, training and healing

Quick answer: you train troops in the Barracks, heal them in the Infirmary, and send them out from the map. Today you can train Tier 1 and Tier 2 troops; Tier 3 and Tier 4 are not available yet. Training is one batch at a time, and healing costs about a third of training.
Troop types and the counter triangle
Section titled “Troop types and the counter triangle”There are four types: Infantry, Ranged, Cavalry and Siege Engine.
- Infantry beats Ranged, Ranged beats Cavalry, Cavalry beats Infantry. In battle the stronger side of a matchup deals double damage and the weaker side deals half damage.
- Siege Engines are built for walls. They do very little damage to other troops, so they need an army to protect them.
- Scout first, then pick the troop type that counters what you see. See Battle reports for how to read the result.
Unlocking Tier 2
Section titled “Unlocking Tier 2”Tier 1 troops are available from the start. A locked troop shows Troop Locked and the message to research the matching node in the Academy; tap Go to Academy.
The Tier 2 unlock for each troop type needs Academy level 9 and the matching Defense research at level 5. Finish that research and the Tier 2 troop of that type appears in the Barracks. See Research.
Training troops
Section titled “Training troops”- Tap the Barracks, pick a troop type and tier.
- Choose how many to train. You can train up to your Barracks Training Capacity in one batch.
- Check the cost and Training Time on the screen, then tap Train.
Rules:
- One training at a time. If a batch is running you see “You can’t start a new Training while another is active. Speed Up the current Training?”. Wait, or use a speed-up.
- Cost. Training uses food, stone, wood, ore and gold. The cost and time per soldier are shown on the Train screen; research can lower the cost and Barracks level and speed-ups shorten the time.
- Not enough resources. The game offers your resource items from the bag. You can also gather more on the map or buy items in the Store.
- Barracks Training Capacity (maximum soldiers in one batch) grows with the Barracks level.
| Barracks level | Soldiers per batch |
|---|---|
| 1 | 40 |
| 2 | 80 |
| 3 | 160 |
| 4 | 240 |
| 5 | 320 |
| 6 | 480 |
| 7 | 640 |
| 8 | 800 |
| 9 | 960 |
| 10 | 1,120 |
After level 10 it grows by 160 per level (level 30 = 4,320). Each Barracks level also makes training 1.5% faster.
Cost and time per soldier, before bonuses. They are the same for all four troop types:
| Tier | Cost | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 100 Food, 100 Wood | 15 seconds |
| 2 | 200 Food, 160 Wood, 80 Stone, 40 Ore, 5 Gold | 30 seconds |
Cancelling or dismissing
Section titled “Cancelling or dismissing”- Abort training gives back 50% of the resources. The troops are not trained.
- Dismiss (Dismiss Soldiers) permanently removes soldiers you pick and you lose their Power. The game asks you to confirm first.
Wounded troops and the Infirmary
Section titled “Wounded troops and the Infirmary”When troops fall in battle, some of them are wounded and the rest are dead. Wounded troops wait in the Infirmary and can be healed. Dead troops are gone.
The Infirmary only holds so many soldiers. Wounded troops waiting there and troops being healed both count toward its capacity. Anything beyond the capacity dies permanently. A bigger Infirmary means fewer permanent losses in big fights. The capacity for your level is shown in the Infirmary’s Infirmary Capacity panel. See Castle and buildings to upgrade it.
Healing
Section titled “Healing”- Open the Infirmary, pick the wounded soldiers (or Select All), tap Heal.
- Healing costs about one third of the training cost of the same troops.
- Healing takes 2 seconds per soldier before bonuses. For example 1,000 soldiers take 2,000 seconds before any healing speed bonus or healing speed-up.
- Soldiers being healed cannot be deployed until they finish.
If only a few soldiers are waiting (less than 2% of your Infirmary capacity), healing them costs no resources and no time.
To shorten a running heal, tap Speed Up and use healing or general speed-up items. Healing speed bonuses (War Chest tier, heroes with the Healing Speed skill, the Imperial Healer title) are counted when you tap Heal, so they shorten a new heal, not one already running.
Why the number of wounded troops keeps changing
Section titled “Why the number of wounded troops keeps changing”Troops use food. If your food stays at zero, then for every full 24 hours without food, 1% of your troops that are free to move (rounded up) become wounded. Wounded troops over the Infirmary capacity die. If a large pile of wounded troops keeps growing, check your food first and keep it above zero.
While a heal is running, the Infirmary shows the batch the game is healing. That number does not change as you pick other troops.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”- “Soldiers are already in training” - a batch is still running. Wait for it, or speed it up or abort it.
- Troops missing from the army screen - they may be wounded, healing, or away on a march. See Marches and rallies.
- Training cost taken but no troops after the timer ended - note the time and the troop type, then open a ticket from Setting → More → Support (Contact support). Do not train again until support replies.
- A battle result or loss number looks wrong - copy the Battle ID from the report and open a ticket. See Battle reports.
