Troop upkeep and how to reduce it

このコンテンツはまだ日本語訳がありません。

Quick answer: every troop you own eats Food, Stone or Wood every hour. You get 10,000 per hour of each resource free, and bonuses such as Upkeep Reduction items cut the rest. Troops that are out on a march or in a fortress still count. Keep your stock above zero.

  • Each troop has an hourly cost. Infantry, Ranged and Cavalry are paid in Food. Siege Engines are paid in Stone and Wood instead of Food.
  • The cost depends on its type and tier. Per troop, per hour:
Troop Tier 1 Tier 2
Infantry (Skirmisher, Footman) 2 Food 4 Food
Ranged (Archer, Crossbow) 2 Food 4 Food
Cavalry (Light Cavalry, Heavy Cavalry) 3 Food 6 Food
Siege Engine (Ballista, Catapult) 8 Stone + 4 Wood 16 Stone + 8 Wood
  • The game adds up all your troops, takes off 10,000 per hour for Food, for Stone and for Wood, then applies your reduction.
  • Your total shows in your castle info as Consumption Rate, in resources per hour. It shows only for resources you actually pay.

Example: your troops cost 30,000 Food per hour. After the free 10,000 you pay 20,000. With a 25% reduction you pay 15,000 per hour.

The free allowance only helps small armies. If your army costs 10,000 per hour or less of a resource, you pay none of it.

All your troops count, wherever they are:

  • On a march, stationed in a guild fortress, or reinforcing an ally: you still pay for them. They stay in your army, so your upkeep is the same. Recalling them does not change it.
  • Wounded troops waiting in the Infirmary: you still pay for them until they heal or die.
  • Troops you dismiss or lose in battle stop costing upkeep.

Reductions are percentages and they add up, then the total is taken off what you pay. A total of 100% or more means you pay nothing. Sources:

Source Effect
Upkeep Reduction 25% (24h) and (7 days) 25% less
Upkeep Reduction 50% (24h) and (7 days) 50% less
Heroes with the Food Upkeep skill The skills of every hero you own add up, deployed or not
Forged gear with Resource Consumption Rate Reduction Adds to the total

The item text says “food upkeep”, but the reduction applies to Food, Stone and Wood. See Boosts for how percentages from different sources add together.

No. You have one Upkeep Reduction item running at a time.

  • You cannot replace a running item with a weaker or shorter one. You see “A stronger or longer effect of this kind is already active.” and the item is not used up.
  • Using an item that is the same or better replaces the running one. The timer restarts at the full length of the new item. Time does not add up.
  • Example: a 50% item with 6 days left blocks a 25% 7-day item. A 50% 7-day item replaces it.
  • Food at zero wounds your troops. See Troops, training and healing.
  • Stone or Wood at zero hurts your Siege Engines the same way: each full 24 hours at zero, 1% of your available Siege Engines are wounded. A partial day never counts.
  • Your upkeep looks too high: check your troop count first, including troops away and wounded. Then check whether a reduction item has run out.
  • An Upkeep Reduction item will not activate: a stronger or longer one is already running. Wait until it ends.
  • The Consumption Rate does not match your math: note the number, your troop counts and your active reductions, then open a ticket. See Contact support.
